Spartak,
I ...Thanks everyone for your comments...

Spartak,
I also have been a fan of Estonian film, and thought KLASS should have been nominated (maybe should have won??). But I still hated St. Tony. I thought it was just silly.

Ali,
I feel the same every year....I wish there was some way for normal people to see all the films...."C.R.A.Z.Y."'s failure to be nominated made me lose a lot of faith in the category and made me realize that the "losers" usually have among them the best film of the year.

Keith,
"The Border" was a fascinating film, and I recommend you watch it! But it's not well-made enough to be nominated here.dzong2https://www.blogger.com/profile/03679143338955036334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1190950236363053164.post-29116125572884730942010-12-08T05:57:14.828-05:002010-12-08T05:57:14.828-05:00I just forgot to mention that I think that you hav...I just forgot to mention that I think that you have forgotten to add Miki Manojlovic, who can be easily called as "Slavian Ricardo Darin" as nearly every year he takes part in one (and this year in two:Circus Colombia and Besa) production...Spartakhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02440700196844950543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1190950236363053164.post-91531279310364111262010-12-05T14:47:29.459-05:002010-12-05T14:47:29.459-05:00Ok,it seems that we have quite different cinematic...Ok,it seems that we have quite different cinematic tastes, because I really enjoyed watching Estonian contender...Though I got used to it.It is the fourth year I have been looking after films in this category and every year Estonia submits great films (I consider that Klass was the best in 2007 year competition, but off course was snubbed). But you are quite right about it chances.

+1 about Bulgaria and Slovenia (for me Slovenian is the second worst after Kazakhastan).

I haven't watched “Bibliotheque Pascal” (but I really want to),but a combination of words "Sado-masochistic" makes it chances for Oscar very close to zero.

Polish "All That I Love" took part in Sundance Film Festival this year (2010) and as far as I rememeber the reviews are quite good.I liked the movie (A-) and I think that it has the best chances (though not so good from all those I have seen, maybe except Russia).

Romania,I'm not a fan of Romanian cinema, but I appriciate it (at least "If I want to..."),though as you have written none of Romanian films got a nomination...Last year I put Romanian "Police, Adjective" in my prediction for January's shortlist and this year the film is much weaker...By the way I think that it had USA release and it's out on DVD so it's worth watching.
About “Tuesday Before Christmas” (which I consider to be a way better and much more "Oscar-friendly"),I have watched it at Jerusalem Film Festival and Alexandru Baciu (screenplay) with Maria Popistasu (main actres),who attended the screening (it was also their honeymoon) told that Romaian premiere should be on October...So maybe the film wasn't aligiable for Oscars...

I agree with Ali about "The Edge",the only thing that can improve it chances is the fact that it's the only film in competion, which somehow touches World War 2...As we all know Oscars like it,so who knows...

"Kawasaki’s Rose" isn't bad,but I didn't like it too much (B\B+).The first part of the film is much more about a relationships of dissident's daughter with her husband (who is the journalist that makes a documentary about the dissident)...So I consider it chances as average (maybe the third or the fourth one in Eastern Europe)...

But you are quite write it was a weak year for Eastern Europe and none of them is likely to get a nomination.Spartakhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02440700196844950543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1190950236363053164.post-17943090244919712292010-12-02T12:42:49.606-05:002010-12-02T12:42:49.606-05:00The Slovakian film "The Border" sounds l...The Slovakian film "The Border" sounds like one I'd like, thanks for another analysis.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1190950236363053164.post-6080452038765667962010-12-01T17:44:06.022-05:002010-12-01T17:44:06.022-05:00hey i watched "edge" from russia, it lac...hey i watched "edge" from russia, it lacks brilliance. "all that i love" from poland, no precision. Others i am seriously not interested but i will love to get my hands on them so that i can judge myself "who's the best". Since we can't that's why we follow reviews just to save curiosity. i really want your views on asian and western europe. And some recommendations from foreign world just for reference (i loved C.R.A.Z.Y, festen, color of paradise, "police, adjective" and many others like them )ali101https://www.blogger.com/profile/03000308780282853079noreply@blogger.com
